Called to Serve

It's official. We learned yesterday that Bret's parents will have a new title as of July 1, 2009: President and Sister Paulson of the Canada Winnipeg (or "Winnie-pig," if you ask Caroline) Mission. We are all experiencing a wide range of emotions. Above all, we are incredibly happy for them, and honored to have their influence on our lives. As I think of Sid and Judy, and their individual characteristics and qualifications, I am very excited for the missionaries they will work with. These young men and women have no idea how lucky they are! I must admit I am a little jealous of the missionaries in Winnipeg. It reminds me a little of when my mom went back to teaching school, and how envious I was of the kids she spent her days with and the relationship I knew she had with them. We will so miss having Grandma and Grandpa come visit, vacationing with them, and spending time with them at their house. They are both such incredible examples and such a support to us. Luckily, we have Skype up and running, and our kids know how to use it to call Grandma and Grandpa. Our kids will change so much over the next three years, and it will help to be able to let the kids talk to them face to face (sort of). Allison will be almost 16 (!) when they return, Emily almost 13, Sydney will be 9, and Caroline 6. I am just thankful that they all have such a close relationship with their grandparents that they will each make a point to keep those bonds strong, even over a great distance. We love you so much, Sid and Judy, and are so thankful for your example of faithful service! Last Halloween at our house--I am so glad we made these memories!
Gingerbread houses with Grandma has been an annual tradition since Allison was little. I get a little choked up thinking of all the things that will have to be put on hold!
Sydney loves her Grandpa! She loves sharing her birthday and her name with him!

LOVED the post Stephanie. I have to say I am really jealous of the missionaries in Winnipeg. Hopefully we can make a couple trips up there with the cousins!

Your post and your comment on Natalie's blog made me really sad. We definitely need to keep traditions going while they are gone!

It's too bad they are such great people or maybe the church wouldn't take them. I guess those are the sacrifices we make. Sorry for your loss over the next three years.

WE (Grandma and Grandpa) while at Natalie's and Shane's house say thanks for the pictures and all the great memories. We will just have to create some more over the next three years. They will just be different but still good!!!

Love, Grandma and Grandpa
